MRO

Airframe maintenance

Airframe maintenance is a highly regulated field that necessitates a rigorous schedule of preventive servicing, inspections, testing, repairs, and overhauls or modifications, all performed by certified Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) technicians on every operational aircraft.

There are eight defined maintenance tasks for airframe systems, determined by decision analysis and specific system requirements. These tasks include lubrication, servicing, inspection, functional checks, operational checks, visual checks, restoration, and removal from service at the specified lifetime.

Engine overhaul and repair

During an engine overhaul, a mechanic disassembles the engine to assess the condition of its internal components, identifying and fixing any issues. Commonly replaced parts during a full overhaul include the crankshaft, piston rings and rods, engine block, bearings, timing belt or chain set, and other essential components.

Rebuilding an engine typically involves removing and disassembling the engine block, followed by cleaning and inspecting it to determine its condition. Damaged parts are then replaced with new or refurbished ones that meet OEM standards, such as piston rings, bearings, gaskets, seals, and lubricants.

Avionics services

Avionics maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) encompasses a range of services carried out by avionics engineers who specialize in the control systems, avionics, and other electronic components of both fixed-wing and rotary aircraft. These services are essential for maintaining optimal performance levels and minimizing downtime.

For airframe systems, eight maintenance tasks are defined based on decision analysis and specific system requirements. These tasks include lubrication, servicing, inspection, functional checks, operational checks, visual checks, restoration, and removal from service at the specified lifetime.
